Most folks don’t think of ramen noodles, especially those packages you can buy at the grocery store, as being very good. Those little flavor packets have all kinds of questionable ingredients including some chemical names I can’t even read.

But my young adult daughter loves them and asked me if I could make them for her without using the chemical packets.

So, I got to work.

First of all, it doesn’t matter what flavor of ramen noodles you purchase, because if it’s chicken or beef, those ingredients are in the flavor packet and you are going to toss that in the trash.

To substitute, I buy a jar of Better Than Bouillon Seasoned Vegetable Base which can be found in the soup aisle of your grocery store. It only takes a teaspoon of this base in hot water to make a whole cup of broth, so a jar goes a long way.

Then I just take my noodles, drop them in boiling water, and cook them for about three minutes, drain and place in a bowl. After that, I pour the hot vegetable broth over the noodles and serve. My daughter is happy and I’m thrilled she isn’t eating those chemical flavor packets.

So go grab some ramen noodles and Better Than Bullion from the grocery store and try this for yourself the next time you need a very quick and easy meal. The noodles are very economical at about 22 cents a package. Let’s eat y’all…!
